Star India has got the IPL media rights the next five years, reports PTI. Sony’s MAX had been airing the matches of Indian Premier League for years now but this will change now as Star India has acquired the rights to India telecast.

Star TV has got all the rights for a period of five years from 2018-2022. These 5 years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will air on Star instead of Sony MAX. Back in 2008, Sony Pictures Network got the IPL media rights for a period of 10 years.

Star India won IPL broadcasting rights with a whopping bid of 16,347.50 crore, this outbit Sony’s bid of Rs 11058. This is a major blow to the Sony Pictures Network as recently the channel also lost some popular shows.

IPL will be contested during April and May of 2018  by teams representing Indian cities. IPL is also getting a good response from the shareholders this time and it seems the next year’s IPL will be historic.
